Powell Sports Wagon

Powell Sports Wagon

The Powell Sports Wagon was produced by Hayward and Channing Powell. Prior to World War II the Powells made motor scooters. The factory was in Compton, California and they made the Powell Sport Wagons from 1954 to 1956.

The Powell brothers started building pickups on available Plymouth and Dodge chassis and drive trains aquired from local junk yards. The cars were stripped of their body and the chassis including the engine was completly rebuilt. Most engines were 201 cubic inch inline six cylinders. Early models featured an all steel body with a fiberglass nose. About 1,000 Powell Sport Trucks and 300 sport wagons were built.

Powell Sport Trucks and Powell Sports Station Wagons were remembered for the fishing pole storage tube that slid out of the rear of the vehicle from between the inner and outer rear fenders.
