Ford Mustang GTD Spirit of America: Everything to Know About this Special Edition Muscle Car

The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD was built with the Nurburgring in mind. It’s barely street legal with an output of 815 horsepower and a track top speed of 202 MPH. The GTD’s official Nurburgring time is 6 minutes and 57.685 seconds. Let’s take a look at this legend in the making.

Mission To Make Nurburgring History

Ford Performance engineers and designers took on a mission to bring the Mustang GTD to the 12.9-mile Nurburgring race in Germany. With a lap time of under 7 minutes, the Mustang GTD joins an elite group of supercars in the history of the race. The GTD features cutting-edge tech and a track-ready design. It’s a race car for the road, legal, but barely.

There have been many performance Mustangs over the years, but the GTD is unlike any that came before. It’s incredibly powerful and designed to compete with the best European supercars. The Mustang GTD is slated for availability in early 2025, but you probably won’t find it in the showroom of your Ford dealer. Only a limited amount is being made.

State-of-the-Art Suspension and Performance

Believe it or not, the GTD is a production car with a multimatic DSSV (Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve), plus an advanced rear suspension and adaptive suspension dampers. This gives the GTD an incredibly precise response to road conditions. Track Mode lowers the GTD’s ride height by roughly 40mm to improve handling and aerodynamics. It only requires the push of a button.

Every part of the Ford Mustang GTD is designed to reduce weight, increase speed, and improve handling. Carbon fiber body panels are standard, while an underbody aerodynamic tray and forged magnesium wheels are available. The titanium exhaust is super lightweight but ultra-capable for projecting the 5.2-liter supercharged V8.

Climb Inside a Legend

Lest you think this car is all about performance without any thought to the cabin, the GTD quickly proves that wrong with a premium interior. Multiple colors are available to customize the cabin to your preferences. Soft-touch leather and carbon fiber details enhance the look throughout. The Recaro seats are hand-tailored with laser-etched Miko suede and unique GTD details.

On the driver’s side, you’ll have the opportunity to equip the available 3D-printed paddle shifters and a rotary dial shifter. Both are made from materials that came from retired Lockheed Martin F-22 fighters. On the tech side, personalized driving modes and quick software updates keep the GTD on the cutting edge.

Designed For Speed

The beating heart of the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD is undoubtedly the supercharged 5.2-liter Predator-based V8 engine with a redline of 7,650 RPM. A dual-clutch, eight-speed transmission sends power to the pavement, while also adding to the almost 50/50 weight distribution from the front to the rear. The GTD is inspired by the track-only Mustang GT3 and is specifically designed to be the fastest road-legal Mustang ever.

Purchase applications for the Mustang GTD are currently closed, but Ford encourages enthusiasts to keep up with updates in case more become available.
