The Dodge Charger is a split-personality, with some models providing amazing power from the new Hurricane engine and others using an EV platform.
Dodge is working to change the muscle car game. They may have ditched Hemi V8 engines and put the Hellcat name to rest, but that doesn’t mean the brand isn’t just as committed to offering high-performance cars as it has been for several decades. The electric version of the Charger is called the Daytona. This version uses a 400-volt architecture with an integrated charge module and two electric motors, giving you standard AWD.
Dodge shows EV excellent right out of the gate
There are two versions of the all-electric Daytona lineup of Charger muscle cars. Both have a 93.9-kWh battery that provides the desired power, and each has three levels of regenerative braking available via a steering-wheel-mounted paddle. The standard Direct Connection Stage power-upgrade kits give the car a 15-second power boost, which allows this new muscle car to access its maximum output for short bursts. Think of this power boost as a nitro system for an EV. The new electric Dodge should be fun to drive, giving you the power, performance, and presence desired.
What are the Charger Daytona models?
The new Dodge Charger Daytona EV can be had in either the R/T or Scat Pack versions. These names sound familiar, giving you some familiarity with what to expect from the car. During the 15-second power boost, the R/T model receives a 40-horsepower upgrade to achieve 496 horsepower. When the same setting is used in the Scat Pack version, the car receives an extra 80 horsepower to reach 670 horsepower for the 15-second drive. The Scat Pack model also delivers 627 lb-ft to the wheels, which means instant acceleration that allows you to rocket off the line quickly.
How fast is the new Dodge electric muscle car?
Without the need to shift through a series of gears, the new Charger Daytona Scat Pack can rocket to 60 mph in only 3.3 seconds. It also has a limited top speed of 136 mph, which we certainly hope can be raised or unlimited at some point during the production of this new electric Charger. The sprint time of this new car is faster than the old gas-powered Hellcat version, which means this new Charger is an upgrade over what we had in the past. If you choose the R/T model, the sprint to 60 mph should take 4.9 seconds, making it possible to stay under the magical five-second mark.
The mashup that is the Charger
In the past, the Charger was a sedan, and the Challenger was a coupe. Things change, and the new electric Dodge Charger Daytona EV takes us back to a time when the Charger was a coupe. This was the case in the early days of the car when most muscle cars were large, V8-powered monsters. The new body style is simple and understated and reminds you of the classic Charger models of the early days of muscle cars.
How far can this new EV drive?
Driving range is extremely important in the electric vehicle world. The new Charger Daytona can reach 308 miles of driving range in the R/T model and 241 miles in the Scat Pack version. It also comes with a fast charging system that allows the batteries to charge from 20 to 80 percent in only 27 minutes when using a properly equipped charging station. As expected, you can also set up a Level 2 charging station in your home using a 240-volt plug.
Don’t let the classic lines fool you
Much like the now-gone versions of the Charger and Challenger, the new Dodge Charger Daytona EV is a modern car wearing a throwback style. Its large enough to accommodate four adults and has large screens in the dashboard. The instrument cluster measures either 10.3 or 16 inches, depending on your selection and the infotainment display measures 12.3 inches.
The classic design echoes the 1968 Charger, which had a “pistol grip” sifter. A modern version of this shifter is located in the center console to give you that classic feeling inside the car. Near this classic shifter is a start button and a wireless phone charger, showing this car can easily blend classic style with modern features.
Will the new Dodge Charger Daytona EV become the electric car that you love to drive? If you want to see what an EV muscle car can be, this is it and its ready to take you on a wild ride to wherever you want to go.
